The problem

Insurance is bought reluctantly and understood poorly. The advice that matters happens in conversation, but the paperwork, comparisons and renewals that follow do not — and an advisory regulated by both IRDAI and AMFI cannot simply ship whatever converts best. Everything a customer is shown has to be defensible.

The opening

The advisor relationship is the asset. Rather than replacing it with a self-serve funnel, the app can carry the parts that do not need a person — comparing cover, storing documents, tracking renewals — so the advisor's time goes to the conversation only they can have.

How we approached it

  • Digitise the follow-through, not the advice itself
  • Present regulated products in plain language without overstating them
  • Keep one record per household, since cover is rarely bought individually
  • Design for a customer who opens the app twice a year, not twice a day

What we built

  • iOS and Android apps for a licensed advisory practice
  • Life, health and motor insurance presented as comparable options
  • Wealth planning alongside protection, under one advisor relationship
  • Document handling for policies, proposals and renewals
  • Advisor-led journeys rather than an unattended self-serve funnel

Inside the product

  • Life insurance

Long-term protection presented in terms of what a family is left with, rather than as a table of sums assured.

  • Health insurance

Cover for medical costs, where the decision hinges on exclusions and network — the details buyers usually discover too late.

  • General & motor insurance

Vehicle and asset cover, the category customers actually renew, and the natural entry point to the wider relationship.

  • Wealth planning

Mutual fund distribution under an AMFI ARN, sitting beside protection instead of in a separate product silo.

What it took
to build.

  • 01

    Regulated distribution

Insurance and mutual fund distribution answer to IRDAI and AMFI. Product data, disclosures and what a customer was shown all have to hold up to that.

  • 02

    Multi-insurer product data

Cover from several insurers has to be modelled into something genuinely comparable, without flattening the differences that matter at claim time.

  • 03

    Documents as first-class data

Proposals, policies and renewal notices are the artefacts customers come back for, so storage, retrieval and expiry are core, not an attachment feature.

  • 04

    Renewal as the retention loop

A policy lapses silently. Renewal timing drives notification design and is the main reason the app is opened at all.

  • 05

Advisor and customer in one system

The advisor's view and the customer's view are the same records seen from different sides, which is a permissions problem before it is a UI one.

  • 06

    Built for infrequent use

An app opened twice a year cannot rely on familiarity. Every screen has to re-explain itself to someone who last used it eleven months ago.
